Outstanding Female Participation at Sahara Exhibition: Emphasizing the Strength of Female Human Capital in the Agriculture Sector
This year’s Sahara Exhibition achieved great success, with wide participation from Egyptian, Arab, and international companies, alongside a large attendance of those interested and working in the field of agriculture.
Within the conference activities, Dr. Mona Morad, CEO of On Air Group, representing one of the Group’s companies active in agricultural investment, took part in extensive discussions on the future of agriculture in Egypt and the importance of this sector as one of the pillars of the national economy.
Dr. Morad emphasized that agriculture in Egypt is not just an economic sector, but an integral part of the country’s identity that has remained throughout history a source of life and stability. Today, the sector contributes around 12% of the GDP and provides employment for nearly 25% of the workforce.
Dr. Morad highlighted that agricultural investments in recent years have exceeded 600 million USD, reflecting growing interest in developing this vital sector. However, challenges remain, including the impacts of climate change, water scarcity, weak agricultural innovation programs, as well as the widening food gap and the increasing reliance on imports.
She also shed light on the role of women in agriculture, noting that while about 45% of working women are engaged in this sector, their ownership of agricultural land does not exceed 5.2%, limiting their access to finance and investment. She stressed that On Air Group’s vision focuses on enhancing women’s economic empowerment in line with their significant participation, ensuring legal protection for their work under labor laws, and providing financial, legal, and managerial support to enable them to lead agricultural projects that contribute effectively to food security and sustainable development.
Dr. Morad concluded by affirming that investment in agriculture is a core pillar of the Group’s strategy not only for its role in strengthening the national economy, but also for its strategic importance in achieving food security and linking agricultural production directly to food industries, value chains, and exports, thereby opening broader horizons for Egypt in regional and international marke
